The Civil War Pension records for Samuel’s children state the following;
"That Sarah Wing mother of Lola Ellen Wing & Elmer Elsworth Wing was married to said Samuel Wing deceased at [blank] in the county of [blank] & State of Pennsylvania on 10th day of December 1859.
While this record didn’t specifically state Sarah’s name, it is quite likely other documents in the pension file listed Sarah’s maiden name and/or her first husband’s name.

My great grandfather is Frederick Walter Brown (1855-1935) of Boston. He had two sons, Frederick Rudolf Brown (1882-1952/53?) and Henry (Harry) Abbot Brown (1884-1935), my grandfather. Frederick Rudolf Brown married Rebecca (Wing) Hussey. Anyone descendent from Frederick Rudolf Brown and Rebecca (Hussey) Brown is descendent from the famous sculptor and artist, Robert Ball Hughes (1804-1868), Frederick Walter Brown’s maternal grandfather. I have a website devoted to him at robertballhughes.googlepages.com. I’d like to hear from other descendents that may not know about their famous ancestor or who may have more information about him. Frederick Walter Brown had many heirlooms and artifacts that he passed down through his two sons, Frederick Rudolf Brown and Henry Abbot Brown. The Wing genealogy shows Frederick Rudolf Brown and Rebecca (Hussey) Brown had two children, Rebecca Wing Brown and Elizabeth Hussey Brown? My genealogy is different and shows that Frederick Rudolf Brown’s children were Fred Jr., Betty, and Priscilla. I believe that some of the Ball Hughes artifacts may have been sold at auction by the estate of Frederick Rudolph Brown, Jr., maybe in the 1990’s.

My Wing ancestors are from the Grindal Wing line. My father, Arthur Ray Wing, son of Frederick Austin Wing, was lost at sea off the coast of Bermuda, when I was 18 months old. He was officially declared deceased in 1943. I plan to join the Wing Family of America this year. For many years I was unable to contact my Wing family in Ohio, and now have renewed contact, thanks to my cousin, Don Dietrich, son of Ethel Wing Dietrich, who searched for me for 50 years. He found me a few years ago via the internet and a friend who assisted him, and since then I have visited three of my cousins in Ohio, Daryl and Cliff Wing, and Don’s sister, Mary & her family. Mary has come to Mississippi to visit. Don has come to Mississippi with his daughter’s family from Little Rock, to visit us and my mom, Gussie Mae DeVane Wing. We have gone to Tucson to visit with Don. I am so pleased to have the opportunity to regain touch with my Wing roots. I want to get all the information together for my two sons and their families as well.

I am so excited, I have finally made my plane reservations to get to the 2008 Reunion for the Wing Family of America, Inc., in Sandwich, MA. This will be the 106th Reunion for the Wing’s. What a fabulous milestone that is...or would that be year stone?
Come one, come all. This is a big deal. Suzanne Crowe, I hope to shake your hand, I hope to meet so many of you. The only thing I can really think is how incredible this family really truly is. We have mostly survived ... until about 18 years ago on snail mail and we thrived...and now we have the computer and the internet and we are still communicating and we are still excited about our roots.

How many people have the last name of Wing ...or how many people have that name in their history....like their mother or their grandmother, or however far back it happens? Although there are a lot of us we are still sort of rare. Compare the Wing name to other surnames...whew. We are not only a rare breed but we have managed to maintain a unity that has lasted for 106 years. That is truly amazing.

I look forward to meeting everyone at the reunion in Sandwich, MA this June 20, 21 & 22. I truly do. History...especially ours, literally seeps out of the soil. We have to visit the Fort House, we have to breathe in our roots, we have to delight in the fact that we are few and yet mighty. We have to go to a place where we don’t have to flap our arms for them to understand the name "Wing."

We are family...let’s honor our roots. This is going to be a very special reunion. Please join us. We look so forward to meeting you all. We are Wings and we are proud.

My branch of the Wing family kinda went Gypsy... as far as I know it went up into Canada, then into Upper Michigan - Lower Penninsula, and then out west... I’m back in New England and trying to get a copy of the family tree so I can connect some dots.

Mentioned in my past, first note, my association with the Wing family was through my grandmother...Almy Wing Slocum. Going back, here are some other Slocum/Wing relationships.

Peleg Slocum of Dartmouth, Ma. (my hometown) born in 1764, married Elizabeth Ricketson. Their 1st child, Almy married Pardon Wing of Dartmouth; Ricketson (her twin brother) married Jemima Wing, daughter of John and Mercy (Almy) Wing. The next child, Rebecca, married John Wing; Otis born 1800 married 1st, Almy Wing ; A William Ricketson Slocum married Elizabeth Cornell who was a daughter of Pardon and Lydie (Wing) Cornell.

Note to Doug (entry 206) and Brandon (entry 205) I have a F G Wing in my family tree, He was the son of F M Wing and Alice (dunn) Wing and full brother to Seaphus Wing my grandfather. According to family records F G Wing was born May 02,1902 in Arkansas he married Pearl J Williams who had three childran from a previous marriage. F G died at Stockton Ca. April 27, 1984 from a heart attack. Both Pearl and him are buried at Farmington Memorial cemetery, Farmington, Ca. They had no children from their union. Hope this helps. I’m a descendent of Spooner Ruggles, who I located on your website. My last name is Clark, but my great-grandmother, on my mother’s side, was Sarah Walkup CLark, who’s mother was Sophia Ruggles Walkup.

I wanted you to know that I live in a town called, Tipton, in Iowa, and over the Internet it was ONLY on your website that I was able to trace the family of Spooner Ruggles, as only your page includes his children, which includes my great-grandmother, Sarah. Sarah’s brother, Liberty, by the way, turned out to be a rather famous man in Illinois while he lived. If you want to know about that, let me know.

I come from a family of 5 children, my father, Herbert Clark, was Sarah Clark’s grandson. I’ve been a lawyer, but now am a journalist, as was my father and my 3 brothers.
