At the 1902 reunion of the Wing Family of America, some 300 Wings were present and many of them paraded to the Sandwich Town Hall to present a wooden firkin containing 30 pounds of butter to the selectmen. This was a reminder of the scarcity of coin in 1652-1653, when our ancestors were assessed taxes in butter.

Speaking for myself, the 2008 National Reunion at Cape Cod was like going home. Wing family history (and the families that married them) literally infuses the very air you breath. I can honestly say that in all of my years of living I have never experienced such a feeling of "home" as I did in Sandwich.

Meeting the cousins, visiting the Wing Family Fort House, the camaraderie, walking in the footsteps of my ancestors. I encourage anyone that can make the reunion to do so. It is an experience I think you will savor, like I still do, for the rest of your life. Bring the camera, take pictures, store your memories. Bring the kids, bring the parents, but make sure you make it. You won't be sorry that you did.

I would like to make every reunion but that isn't always possible...but I will do anything I can to make the ones at Cape Cod.
