I thought I should add the following information to our official site for any of our English cousins who might be looking for a connection. This information was shared with me by Gill Jones probably about five years ago. I just recently received an email from Gill Jones, in fact, this morning! Gill is doing fine but she writes that she still has not found a connection between her Wing family and our Wing family. Our first English cousin to be introduced is Gill Jones of England, who ia Wing descendant. The connection between her Wing's and our Wing's has not been made at this time, but she has sent some very interesting family history. Over Worton, where Gill's ancestors lived is just a short way from Banbury, Oxforshire, England, where our Patriarch, Matthew Wing is buried. Gill Jones has first found her ancestors at Over Worton, where Hannah Wing (maiden name unknown) had her three children baptized; 1. Joseph Wing, baptized April 23, 1671 (age 20) at Over Worton by Hannah Wing (widow) 2. Mary Wing, baptized April 23, 1671 (age 18) at Over Worton by Hannah Wing (widow) 3. John Wing, baptized December 14, 1670 (age 16) at Over Worton by Hannah Wing (widow)
Joseph Wing, son of Hannah Wing (widow) is Gill's direct ancestor. Joseph Wing married Elizabeth Unknown about 1686, place unknown. Their children were: 1. William Wing, baptized about 1688, place unknown 2. Mary Wing, baptized November 24, 1689 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 3. Hannah Wing, baptized September 11, 1692 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 4. John Wing, baptized February 11, 1692 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 5. Sarah Wing, buried June 9, 1697 (infant) at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 6. Joseph Wing, baptized July 22, 1700 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 7. Robert Wing, baptized July 4, 1702 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 8. Edward Wing, baptized February, 1705 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England 9. Samuel Wing, baptized February, 1708 at Over Worton, Oxfordshire, England Gill writes: All the children were alive in 1716 when John died and I know that William (my ancestor), Robert, Edward and Samuel were eventually married and had families. ------------------------- Mary Wing married John French on May 21, 1689 at Over Worton. They had two children, a boy and a girl, who were both alive in 1716. Mary Wing and her husband, John French lived in Deddington, Oxfordshire, England until their deaths. ------------------------ John Wing married Elizabeth Unknown . They had no children. John made a will in 1715, leaving money to his brother Joseph's children and to his sister Mary's children. John Wing also left money to a John Williams, whose connection to the family is unknown at this time. The remainder of his money, property, etc., was left to his wife Elizabeth and he appointed his nephew, William (son of Joseph) and his wife,Elizabeth, as executors of his will. John Wing died in 1716 -------------------- Gill writes; " I find it very strange that after Joseph, Mary and John were baptized as adults, then at least 15 years goes by until one of them is married. Also, I wonder why John was baptized first in 1670 and then Joseph and Mary are baptized together in 1671. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated."
Interestingly, while Gill was trying to sort everything out, a copy of the British I. G. I. for the name Wing in Oxfordshire was obtained and these are a few entries that Gill came across; Daniel Wing born 1616 in Banbury John Wing married Martha Spooner 1676 at Banbury John Wing married Experience Gifford 1710 at Banbury Experience Wing married Nehemiah Sherman on April 8, 1745 at Banbury Hannah Wing married Hattie Kelly on April 8, 1745 at Banbury Obviously that information (where they were married) is incorrect.
