Submitted by Judy Pierson, WFA Life Member, past Corresponding Secretary. FROM THE 2006 EDITION OF THE OWL Thirty family members in District Seven gathered on August 6, 2005 in Grass Lake, MI at the Whistlestop Park Association. This former Michigan Central train station has been restored as well as the historic garden that contains many century old landscape elements. It is one of only two remaining gardens connected to Michigan Central Stations that was provided for the use and enjoymnet of the train traveling public. As a special treat, Gary Childs brought several old tractors from his collection to the station. this generated much attention and discussion, and was a wonderful addition to the reunion. A delicious potluck lunch was enjoyed by all attendees. An identification game with items not familiar to all caused much discussion. Unfamiliar items such as a Chicken Waterer and Sheep Clippers recall a rural heritage. Judy Pierson and Sharon Wheeler presented reports of the National Reunion in Sandwich. Judy also provided membership forms and signed up at least one new member. As an ending to the afternoon, Jeanette Childs gave a tour of the Coe House Museum. This historic home contains several items manufactured in the Grass Lake area. There was a feeling that the family had just stepped out of the house. Jeanette is a member of the Grass Lake Historical Society and has been involved in maintaining this property. (It seems that Wings are attracted to old houses). Thanks to Jeanette and Gary for their help and extra effort in making this a wonderful reunion. |
