From posted information and photos at the new WFMP site (Wing Family Meeting Place), the WFA has learned of a reunion held in Ronan, Montana on August 9, 10, and 11, 2007, held at the home of Bob and Linda Bell, with 106 in attendance. Thirteen attendees were from Canada, and one traveling the farthest was from Texas.
The reunion families are the descendants of Claude and Eva Wing, grandparents of Rex A. Sands who has been the main organizer of both the 2005 and 2007 gatherings. The last remaining members of the children of Claude and Eva Wing - Claude Melvin (Mel) Wing, 90 on August 27th, and Edwing Ralph (Ralph) Wing, 84, were present at the reunion. Everyone enjoyed the special decorated birthday cake of Mel fishing. Ed and Sue Wing provided some great entertainment. An auction of hand crafted and family heirlooms was held and raised $1740.00 that paid for the reunion and a head start on the next one to be held in Frazier, Idaho the third weekend in July 2009. Rex also hopes to attend the WFA National Reunion 2009 in Oregon. He has confirmed his research back to Russell Wing MD, and believes his lineage is linked to Daniel. His earliest record of his great grandfather, Zebulon Wing, (born in New York in 1854) is his marriage to Susan Emily Smith in Bible Grove, Clay County, Illinois, and his marriage record indicates his father's name was Russell Wing (Mary). Rex's family pictures can be seen on our Wing Family Website. The OWL looks forward to receiving news about the next Reunion, 2009, of this family gathering. Thanks to Rex Sands for posting this news. |
