THIRTEENTH DISTRICT
(California, Nevada, Hawaii)
Jean Haserot - District Representative

We are still hoping to have a Wing Family gathering this year in southern California. Our potential host for 2007 in northern California was ill and could not provide the leadership. As District Thirteen Representative I have not been idle in Wing things.

In January 2007 my oldest daughter took me to the cemetery in Suisun/Fairfield in northern California. We re=aquainted with the history of Captain Josiah Wing, who settled in Suisun in the 1850's and had a shipping business to the California gold fields. We found his gravesite and took a picture. Then we found a number of other Wings buried there.

Several times a year I have had a mini-reunion with a Wing family member, Joanne Schwarzer, who works in my city, Arcadia. She is great encouragement as we talk and plan.

I have pursued the Wing name through an obituary in the local paper and I found a whole Wing family in the area with three adult children and their children. We have talked on the telephone and they are interested in pursuing the Wing website and coming to any kind of a gathering.

Another lead was from a license plate "The Wing Family" and a business logo on the car. I am still waiting for a personal contact. I hope others in our district will reach out to each other and to potential new members.

Let me know of any mini Wing gatherings in our district.

ADDED NOTE..WE hope that Jean's husband, Jerry, is making a strong recovery after his shoulder surgery.

Greetings from the thirteenth district. We did not have a district reunion this year. One of our members, Peter Daniels, has offered to host a reunion in the Fall of 2007. This one will be in Northern California in the Antioch area, between San Francisco and Sacramento.

My husband, Jerry and I attended the National Reunion in sandwich, MA held in June 2006. We had a marvelous time. I enjoyed attending the board meeting on Saturday morning as well as all the other events. It was helpful to connect names and faces with our hard working officers. The highlight was Saturday afternoon at the Annual Meeting under the tents in the rain. The New England Clambake that followed was such fun and delicious. We felt like we cousins are very hardy folks trudging through the rain and mud. We met some of the California Wings at Sandwich.

There were two deaths among our members - Pat Ponsar of Victorville, CA and Mary WIng Cray of Madera, CA. I wrote to the families. We have one new member in Hawaii, Margaret Hara of Hanapepe, HI. We will have to go visit her. I have also been in touch with some members who live near me. I would appreciate hearing from any members of our district with interesting news. Do any of you have family serving in Iraq of Afghanistan? I am grateful for our Wing heritage.
