Nancy Myers...Welcome to our new Distict Representative!!!

FROM THE 2007 EDITION OF THE OWL...SUBMITTED BY NANCY MYERS

It has been an interesting year for all of us involved with District Twelve, as we tackled some pretty hefty projects. Of course our number one project has been the 2009 reunion.

On May 5, 2007 we met for our sixth reunion since Bev Vorpahl brought us all together. We met for the fourth time at John and Barbara Wickham's house and, as usual, they were outstanding hosts. Our meeting began by thanking John Wickham who has been our greatest asset this past year.

John developed a website for our district and keeps track of all of the updates. All anyone has to do is access the website for up-to-the-minute information on what our district is doing. There is a link trough to the National Website. We are so lucky to have this because it is a geat way for all of us to communciate with each other.

Having the website has also given us the opportunity to cut back on District mailings, a good thing in light of the cost associated with two letters a year being sent to each member of our district. We have chosen to send out only one letter a year and utlize the website and email for additional communication. We sent out a survey last year to all of our district members, asking them if they could or would utilize the website, had email, and if they wanted to continue receive letters twice yearly. The members respnded well and I want to thank each one for their help.

The 2009 Reunion Committee has been formed and we have been busy!!! On September 15, 2007, the committee members who were able to attend met in Seaside, Oregon with Gretchen Darnell, Director of Sales at the Convention Center. She took us on a tour, answered all of our questions, and reassured us that this was the perfect place for our National Wing Reunion. We decided our reunion motto would be "So West, Wings," Seaside is very kid-friendly so we are encouraging everyone to attend. This time, "Westwar Ho!" won't be a six-month wagon trip, so everyone head west in 2009 for a great time!!!

FROM 2006 EDITION OF THE OWL SUBMITTED BY BEVERLY VORPAHL

District Twelve of the Wing Family of America, Inc., celebrated its fifth anniversary this spring when we met again at the home of John and Barbara Wickham in Beaverton, Oregon. Our hosts were incredible. We opened the session with the flag salute and sang "God Bess Americia" - and we sounded pretty good. Barbara served a delicious dinner, which we all enjoyed before getting into the general meeting. Dessert followed.

This is my last report as district twelve representative. Nancy Myers has agreed to assume those reponsibilities. Nancy, a charter member, has contributed a lot to our group with her observations, research and with her pleasant personality. She chonicles her heritage through poetry, which is as unique as she is. This year, Nancy gave a report on Stephen Wing, John and Deborah's son, which wrapped up our reports of the four brothers. For our writing session this time, most people chose to write about childhood friends and memories - a start that could be expanded into a chapter of their books.

I am a little sad about giving up the district representative position, but change is good as I assume my new role of Assistant Historian for the Wing Family of America, Inc. It will also be interesting to see where Nancy takes the twelfth district.
