My Patai's in New Orleans, Louisiana are interested in family history and over the past year I have managed to collected hundreds of years of heritage on other lines. While you are already re-doing your site, why not include old issues of "THE OWL" so a greater number of our clan can do research . If you made back issues available online you might get a larger enrollment rate. There are many out here that are getting frustrated with the lack of assistance in obtaining varifiable info. Please consider this request.--In my case, we can trace back only 4 generations [circa 1815]. Info was provided on earlier family members but was not varifiable. It was later found to be totally incorrect. If we are to receive assistance from TWFA,it should at least be reliable and VARIFIABLE, not just guesses. We can do that without help.     Hello my name is Will and I am the great grandson of D.D.S. Franklin Fearing Wing. My grandfather is William Daniel Wing and his brother was a hall of fame show jumper for the army his name was Brigadier General Franklin Fearing "Fuddy" Wing. My father has a family tree for our family that dates back pretty far, but I havn't seen it in a while so my great grandfather is the farthest I can trace back from the top of my head.     My wife Anne and I were in Cape Cod for a WW II ship reunion and visited the Wing Old Fort House on Saturday September 22 before we returned to Michigan. My grandmother was a Wing, so it was a must for us to visit the house. We found it most interesting and the caretaker was most informative.     "The OWL", the newsletter of the Wing Family, was started in Kewaunee, Wisconsin a few years before the turn of the century. George Wing was its original writer and editor. George went on to write many stories of the history of Kewaunee County. The Kewaunee County Historical Society is putting together a collection of these stories and is searching for a picture of George Wing to place on the cover of the collection.     My line starts with Stephen Wing, then Nathanial, Nathanial Jr., Joseph. Reuben, Reuben Jr., Stephen Landers, George Washington, William Henry, and George Herbert Wing. The last few are from Maine. I have a 2nd Wing line that follows the previous one up to Reuben Jr., then goes to Stephen P., Freeland Q., and back to George Herbert. Fascinating isn't it?

    I'm thinking about renewing my Wing Membership. In the past year, I found the picture of our Great-Grandfather Stephen Wing, who died in the Civil War. Barb Palow did the search and found the history of the battle he was in and where he died. In Stephen's wife's obit, she had stated he died at Fair Falls, Va. Wrong he did at Fair Oaks, Va. I knew that my Cousin Evelyn Merrill, had a pic handed down from my grandfather Frank Ennis Wing of the soldier Charles Warboys, that helped my gg grandfather when he was killed in the Civil war. Then I got sent a copy to Barb. This old pic of Steven Wing was in his grand daughter's house, and she died, I knew of the pic, which I had never seen, because it was too hard for my Aunt to get down. Last year her daughter found the pic and I copied. It took many years to get this pic, but we did, and now know the history of our great grandfather Stephen Brown Wing.     Comment: My wife was the late Fern E. Wing Reid who compiled the book The Wing Family of the USA and Canada. She began compiling the data for the book in 1958 and continued to research Wing family lines until she had a stroke in July of 1995. We visited the Wing Fort House and was truly impressed. We had the good fortune of living in the UK for 11 years and in 1966 visited most of the Wing sites whose photos are shown in the OWL. I feel honored to have married a beautiful girl whose ancestry is so noble - she was a wonderful wife and mother and a dedicated family history researcher. She published two other books - one on her mother's ancestry THE HORSMAN GENEALOGY and another on her WHITTIER ancestry. Quite an accomplishment for a mother of 7 and an outstanding homemaker. These unusual achievements I suppose just reflected her Wing heritage.

What are our best sources? Hopefully, someday I can join the Wing Family Association and obtain the OWL. Would the Seattle Public Library have the OWL? My grandfather, Charles Keaton Hatcher b. 5 May 1880 in St Peter, Nicolett Co., MN married Mary Lida Brown b. 1893 in Colorado Springs, CO, dtr of Eugene Lewis Brown and Emily Chase Knapp. They were married in Everett, WA in Oct of 1910. Emily Chase Knapp is the dtr of Wm. Knapp and Harriet Chase. Harriet was b. 18 Dec 1820 in NY to Wm Chase Sr b.30 Apr 1787 in NY and Hannah Wardwell b. 10 Feb 1788 in CT. Hannah us descended from Samuel Wardwell who was hung as a witch in Salem, Sept 1692. I am assuming you have all this info in your records somewhere so I won't go all the way back at this late time.     Comment: Hello Wing Family, I hail from Green Bay, Wisconsin, near Kewaunee, Wisconsin which was the original home of THE OWL begun by the nephew of my great-great grandmother, Ella (Elliott) McDonald. George Washington Wing was the son of Rufus and Mary (Elliott) Wing and he and his son, George Dikeman Wing, founded and published the family annals beginning in 1899 in Kewaunee. I'm wondering if the Wing Family of America has these very earliest volumes - from 1898 to 1910 - on microfilm available for loan or sale. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.     Comment: There was a question regarding information about Godfriedus Wynge, and the information you may be looking for is in the "GENEALOGY--NEW ENGLAND. Vol 11. PP 720, 721 under CRAMTON--The Wing Line... "(1) Godfriedus Wynge was born at Liege, Belgium, and was probably among the early Protestants who sought refuge in England, or he may have come there with John Abasco in 1550, as he was tutor to his children after the latter left England for Denmark in 1553. He was a learned man and a prominent preacher. They went to Endie where Wing preached for some time and translated the whole Bible. At the accession of Elizabeth he probably returned to England, for in 1551 the Bishop of London recommended him to the senate of Frankfort, who elected him as minister to the Dutch refugees residing there. In March, 1562, he was minister to the church of Sandwich, England. By the end of 1563 he was minister of the Dutch church in London, where he resided until he died, September 30, 1599. In one of his letters he mentions his wife Levina. He returned to Sandwich on account of the persecution of the Protestants in Flanders. He is believed to be the father of Matthew, mentioned below. (II) Matthew Wing, son of Godfriedus Wynge, lived in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England, from about 1560, and was a tailor by trade. His will was dated August 19, 1614, and proved November 15 following, showing that he died between those dates. He had a son John, mentioned below. (III) Rev. John Wing, son of Matthew Wing, was a nonconformant preacher in the island of Walcheron, in Flushing, province of Zealand, Holland, and in London, England. He was a well-educated man and the author of several printed books, which are still extant. He was born in England, and died in London in 1630. He married Deborah, daughter of Rev. Stephen Batchelder. He had sons: John, Matthew, Stephen and Daniel."
