Have been aware of the WFofA since a child in the 1930's, when my aunt, Erma Wing Allen, subscribed to the Owl. Am the son of Wilford (born Frank) W. Wing and Minna Dahl Wing. My father's siblings were Horace, Clinton, Erma, Lucille & Lydia.
My wife is Patricia M. Wing, her Father was Eugene L. Wing who married Gertrude McMindes. From Hornell, NY & Canisteo NY. I have heared about this Wing reunion from a Bruce Wing who was a department head at Kodak in Rochester NY. He told me a story about all Wings are related as to the three brothers that came over to the United States together and started making the BIG family o the Wings. We are looking into attending the Reunion in June 2004 as it is in the Northeast this year. I told my wife this would be loads of Fun and exciting meeting a lot of Wings. Thank you for this great site to look at and review the information on it. It's GREAT!

NEW METHODOLOGY FOR SEARCHING ITALIAN CIVIC RECORDS By Dr Francesco Matozza A birth certificate of an Italian ancestor is indispensable for Italian citizenship. All Italian descendants (italoargentinos, italouruguayos, italobrasileros, italovenezolanos, italoamericanos, italoaustralianos, italocanadienses etc.) have the same difficulties in finding birth Certificates of Italian ancestors. For several years I have been studying Italian genealogy and in particular how to obtain Italian Civic documentation. I have written several articles on the matter and recently we have developed, with a multidisciplinary team, a new methodology of searches that allow us to find Italian documents faster and more efficiently. This network of researchers, specialized in Italian genealogy, has implemented a system of searches using finder robots, spiders and software specialized in genealogy. The researchers input is essential in the search to obtain better results Complexity of the search According to the data obtained there are 5 levels. Knowing: 1- Full name of the Italian, birth date and birthplace 2- Full name the Italian, birthplace (Comune) and approximate year of birth 3- Full name, year of birth and province, but you does not know birthplace (Comune) 4- Full name, year of birth and region, but Comune or Province are unknown 5- Full name, year of birth and Comune, Province, and Region are unknown. The search of Italian civic records is like an Equation with one or several incognitos to solve. In degrees 3, 4 and 5 specialist advice is required to find the document. Archives We consulted different municipal Italian archives; Regional, State and different databases to obtain greater data Information systems Computerized management of the data allows us to make better decisions on search routes. The information center prioritizes the tasks of Selecting, storing, organizing, comparing, valuing, synthesizing and printing information. There is constant monitoring as the search progresses. All the obtained data is stored in the database and printed in hard copy. Conclusion. Thanks to a specialized multidisciplinary team in Italian genealogy, the Italian documents can be obtained faster and more efficiency. We are currently developing new software based on the Linux operating system that will optimize the searches of documents and will allow many Italian descendants to obtain the Italian records of their ancestor required to get Italian citizenship Dr Francesco Matozza www.Marists.com.ar/champa/exa.htm fsmatozza@elsitio.net
Very interesting web site. Years ago my mother and aunt (both deceased) told me about a Rev Steven Batchelder that came to America and settled in what is now Hampton, MA. A coworker, (about 12 years, Howard Noise, now deceased) told of a bible his mother had that had writing in it that mentioned this person and that he was run out of town as a womanizer. She lived in Hampton, MA and went to church there, she is also deceased.
I descended from Roger Haviland (1765-1854) and Hannah Wing (1764-1838), daughter of Edward, son of Edward, son of Daniel, son of Daniel, son of Rev. John Wing and Deborah Batchelder. I am attempting to collect photos of ancestors or photos of portraits of ancestors or photos of gravestones of ancestors. If anyone knows where I can find such photos for any of these ancestors, please contact me via the Havilands.com web site. I do know that Roger Haviland and Hannah Wing are buried at the Friends Cemetery on the Corner of Ridge and Cronin in Queensbury, NY (the township on the North side of Glens Falls). I found and took pictures of some of their childrens' graves there, but could not find Roger and Hannah. You can see the gravestones I have collected thus far at Havilands.com.
I do believe my sister (now Sarah Cotterill) has traced the Wing name of our mother, Evelyn, to the Wing brothers of Banbury. I know that some members of my extended family, including my Uncle Bud Wing, have visited the site of the Wing colony in Mass. My hyphenated name brings my mother's maiden name together with my father's. I accompanied my parents on a trip to Banbury England many years ago.
Just a quick "Hello" and "Good Work" from a fellow "Wing Webmaster" here in Alabama

Just started researching after the passing of my mother, born Judith Anne Wing in 1944 to Ruth Martin and Kitridge Wing (VT). I know I am a desendant of the Wing Fort House, when I was young I remember seeing the family tree, however, both my mother and grandfather have now passed away and I am trying to find out more. Working the Rutland, Vermont connection. Any information? Please contact. Great to see so many decendants!
Interesting reading. My Wings come from East Yorkshire, England. I am able to trace back to Joseph Wing marriage in 1720--second marriage 1734. If anyone connects to this branch I would love to hear from you. Daniel Wing came to Canada around 1826 and settled in Quebec. Jeanne

Greetings. I've been researching my ancestry since 1977. I am descended from both John and Stephen Wing. Is the "Wing Fort House" still standing. The latest issue of the NEHGS publication, New England Ancestors, has an article about The Fairbanks House in Dedham Massachusetts. The refer to it as the "oldest timber-frame building in New England." Is the Wing Fort House not timber frame? I thought that it was the oldest house in New England.

would love to find out more about the wing family . My great grandmother was Ruthilda Wing who was married to george A.Holton 1st
My grandmother was Violet Ruth Wing, and I believe that we are descendants of Matthew Wing (but I have a long way to go still to prove it!!) Her father was William Hayes Wing, born in Illinois in 1877; her grandfather was Marcellus Wing, born about 1855 in New York; her great-grandfather was David W. Wing, born in 1820 in Quebec -- and that's about all I have been able to verify by looking at census and other records. I am thrilled to find the Wing family websites (including this one), and hope that I will one day be able to verify the connection I believe we have to Matthew Wing/Wynge. Thanks for all your work on these lines!!

My wife and I attended the reunion in Sacremento and enjoyed meeting many new family members. There were group pictures taken and the new president indicated they would be made available on this website. Any idea when that might take place? Thanks for your attention to this item. We look forward to seeing them.

I'd love to have more information on my familiy's geneology. I was born in Rochester, NY and my father is Robert Daniel Wing. He's now 92 years old and would certainly be interested in learning more about our family's heritage.
My sister, Carole Anne, and I only recently were made aware of our long Wing heritage. We were both born and raised in Central Connecticut. Our father, Herman Ray Wing (1898-1958) was born in Livermore Falls, ME with a number of sisters in the Bangor area, to the best of my recollection. Our line runs - Matthew, Rev. John, Stephen, Nathaniel, Ebenezer, Simeon, Allen, Alden, John Allen, Albert French and Herman Ray.

My greatgrandmother was Elizabeth Almy Wing, daughter of whaling captain, Lyman Wing and his wife Hannah Howland Wing. With my father and his brothers being wirey Greek -American's, we didn't know where my older brother Charles got his barrel chest and stirdy girth, until we saw an old photo of Captain Wing. Must have got some of his genes. It's fascinating how people are in a family tree. So many relations...We'd be interested in hearing from any local or distant relatives who know anything about these more recent New Bedford ancecedents. We do have a copy of the family tree of Hannah and Lyman Wing. Elizabeth Tsouprake
Just found out very distant relative of the Wings. Still looking into how and who officially, but think I come from Stephen. (after alot of daughters married to change last names) Look forward to keeping in touch with the site.

My first cousin recently located me after searching for nearly 50 years. It is something I have wanted for many years, but had been unable to search out. He has recommended this site/organization and I look forward to checking out this website. My father, Arthur Ray Wing, was killed off the shore of Bermuda in 1942 about the USS Gannett. I was 18 mos old. My mother, Gussie Mae DeVane (Wing_ Walden is now 84 years old and lives in Alabama. She remarried when I was 3 and we moved to Minnesota when I was 5. I used to visit my grandparents and aunt, uncles, and cousins until I was 12. After that we slowly lost contact. It is wonderful to now have a chance to get to know some of them and share the Wing family heritage. Thanks for your part in this. Towana Wing Moffett 8/11/03

I received an email from Don Dietrich telling me about this organization. He recently located me after nearly 50 years. He is helping me contact my Wing family relatives. I am the daughter of Arthur Ray Wing and Gussie Mae DeVane Wing. Ray Wing was killed when his ship, the Gannett was sunk off the coast of Bermuda in 1942. I was 18 mos. old. I was in contact with my Wing family by summer visits until I was 12. After that I was in contact with my father's stepmother (Grandma Wing), Fern Williams Wing. When she died I received a returned letter from the nursing home in Ohio saying deceased. Since then I have wanted to have contact with my Wing family. It was an exciting day when I received the call looking for Towana Wing!!! I look forward to checking out this web site. Thank you for making this possible. Towana Wing Moffett 8/11/03

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Almy Wing of New Bedford, daughter of whaling captain Lyman Wing. A geneology my mother's cousin had done has been in my possession for a few years. There was a lot of intermarriage of Howlands and Wings and I presume old quaker families from this area, Ricketsons, Russells, Slocums, Almys. I was amazed looking at it at all the folks it took to create my great grandmother and realized that my family must have hundreds of distant relatives in this area. Now looking at this guest book I see that there are so many relations through the Wing family all over the country. Amazing!! I visited the Wing house in the 70's. Would love to go to a reunion. That would be a fascinating experience. Close family friends have turned out to be distant relations and I actually had a roomate at one time who also turned out to be Howland.
I like the page I was looking for Information on the name Loantha; as where it came from maybe what it means? when I saw from the wing family there was a Loantha Jane? any help you can give will help. Iwas told it was a family name passed down to each daughter. thank you. Loantha ann.

I hope every Wing descendent gets a chance to get to the Cape and visit the Wing Fort House. We are a fortunate family to have a homestead to "go home" to. You touch the past every time you step in the front (or back) door. I am proud to be a Wing!
I love this site! I check in from time to time. My sister & I went to all of the town clerk's offices in Rochester, Fairhaven, Acushnet, and Mattepoisette, MA and found a whole bunch of information! From there we went to the city library in New Bedford and traced our family all the way back to Daniel! Our great-great-great grandfather Capt. Timothy Wing (who was our missing link) was born on 04-21-1777 and his wife Deborah (Damon) Wing was born on 04-15-1780. They married on 06-25-1798 and had 9 children whose names and birtdates follow: Betsy - born 06-17-1800 Benjamin - born 10-05-1801 Permelia - born 06-23-1803 Rebecca - born 03-13-1805 Timothy - born 03-05-1807 Twins - Charles and Henry born 03-04-1810 Charles died - 11-24-1811 Henry died - 11-28-1811 Charles Henry (our great-great-grandfather) born 03-04-1812 (Notice how he was named after the twins?) And Earl - born 06-08-1814 It would be nice if we could find someone from theses siblings' families. Are there any cousins out there reading this? ~Ellie M. Wing~
I love this site! I check in from time to time. My sister & I went to all of the town clerk's offices in Rochester, Fairhaven, Acushnet, and Mattepoisette, MA and found a whole bunch of information! Would like to know more info. on the Swift family who came to Crawford County, Pa in 1816 by way of oxen train. We know that Josiah and his brother Dean Swift came from near New Haven and that their father was John who married Abigail Sage and then Anna Goodrich. We would like to trace further back. Dean Swift is father to Louisa who is my 3rd great grandmother who married Isaac W. Cummings in Crawford County, PA. I am not sure if Hamden is the area in which I should be looking or not. Thanks! Jackie

Hi, I live here on the Cape, my Grandmother was a Wing, Edith Wing. Sadly she has passed but was always very proud of her heritage. Growing up here on the Cape we have visited the house. It's such a great sensation to know that my family has been here for so long, it gives you such a sense of belonging, and I plan on raising my family here also. Great site!!

Hi, I discovered I am a relative of the Wing family. My grandfather was Clarence Herrington, we are descended from Silas Herrington who married Anna Theresa Wing. I hope to visit the House on cape Cod this summer. Sincerely, Patti Vottis
I am the granddaughter of Clarence Herrington. I have been working on the genealogy of our family for about a year. I discovered that Anna Theresa Wing married Silas Herrington and they lived in the Pittstown area of New York not far from my home. She was a direct descendant in the Wing family, and so am I many times removed. I found at the Rensselaer County Historical Society, a document, which I have a copy of in my possession, regarding guardianship of one of her grandchildren. The document was signed by her in her own handwriting. I hope to have a chance to visit the house this summer and perhaps someday meet some of my relatives. Thanks for sharing so much history on the net. Sincerely, Patti Vottis
