WE NEED YOU

The Wing Family of America, Inc., needs Wing male descendants (from John, Daniel or Stephan) to join our Family Y-DNA project.

What is Y-DNA?

Within our DNA we carry chromosones that contribute to who and what we are. Males are the only ones that carry the Y Chromosone. Just like the fact that the male inherits his family name from his father and passes it to his son, the Y Chromosone is passed in the same way.

This Y Chomosone has remained intact (almost like a perfect package) from Rev. John Wing (who received his from his father, Matthew Wing) to his three sons that conceived children; John, Daniel & Stephen. Those three males in turn passed this perfect package onto their sons who then passed that package on to their sons. This process has continued for generations. It is in that way that all living Wing males who are descended from either John, Daniel or Stephen possess this perfect package within their Y Chromosone.

Raymond Wing explains Y-DNA Testing and why it is so important to the Wing Family

At the present time the Wing Family has utilized two sites for Y-DNA testing; Family Tree DNA & Sorensen Molecular Genealogy Foundation. The basic difference is that Family Tree charges for the test while Sorensen does not.

You might question why you would go to the place that costs when you can do it for free. Well, one of the reasons is that you will receive your results in the mail when you go through Family Tree whereas with Sorensen you have to keep checking the website for your results.

At Family Tree you will find out in about 3 months what your results are whereas with Sorensen it will probably take up to a year.

If neither of those things are obstacles then there is no reason why you shouldn't use Sorensen. All we do ask is that you contact Raymond Wing and let him know that you have submitted your DNA. For the study to have any value we need to know who sent in their DNA and when. We will not publish the names of donors. We will always use case numbers. It is imperative to know your line of descent.

Here are the results with the five participants that have donated their Y-DNA to be studied:

Wing Family Y-DNA Results

Our Wing Family Y-DNA Project is still in it's infancy. Therefore we are way behind other families in terms of donors. It is hoped that with enough participants, a better understanding of the number of distinct Wing families can be determined as well as how the various families may be related. In addition, results may be able to identify if the Wing line came from the Danish Viking stock, from the Anglo-Saxon stock, or another stock.

This site is designed to be a repository for all Wing [Wynge, Winge, etc.] families. Tradition states that the Wing family in England derives from two parishes named Wing [in Rutlandshire and Buckinghamshire]. It also states that both of these parishes (and the word Wing) derive from the Danish Vikings who settled in that portion of England in the 10th Century called the "Danelaw."

This website will gradually evolve as we gain more participants. In the meantime it might be of interest to you to check out the Clan Ewing in America (no relation to our Wing family). They have a very well developed Y-DNA website with extremely well prepared explanations about Y-DNA.

If for whatever reason you would like to go through the Wing Family Study rather than the Sorensen Foundation and you find the cost to be too much of a burden, please contact Raymond Wing and he does have some options that might help you. By the same token, if you decide to go through the Sorensen Foundation and need help with your family tree...you can contact Raymond Wing.
