A Healing Oasis
By Cynthia Doherty
Meet our Wing cousin Dr. Adam Miramon.

Adam owns two businesses in the Washington DC Area: Transformational Acupuncture https://www.dc-acupuncture.com and Transformational Herbal Pharmacy https://transformationalherbalpharmacy.com
Adam tells me he first received acupuncture therapy in 1996. Though he was well aware of the healing properties of this therapy, as with all of us, life got in the way and he only became a regular patient eight years later in 2004.
I’ll let Adam tell you more:
“I was working on undergraduate studies, frustrated, and just wanted to graduate. I found myself at a crossroads in graduate school. I decided to take a temporary leave of absence. After filing the necessary paperwork, I had a dream that night of the moment, years earlier, when I told my acupuncturist “I just want to go to acupuncture school!”. The next day I heard an ad for the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH, formerly the Tai Sophia Institute) School of Acupuncture. I started a new graduate program within six weeks.”
Adam’s study of acupuncture and herbal medicine led to his opening the two businesses mentioned above. Both modalities have been used for centuries to treat a broad range of health conditions, including fertility issues, pain, stress, and mental health. Adam explains these minimally invasive treatments, unlike pharmaceuticals, create virtually no side effects.
The world we live in is a stressful place. We know that stress can cause the body to react in negative ways. Adam explains how he tries to make his clinic as relaxing as possible:
“Our group clinic is a place for people to slow down, get in touch with themselves, and regain their physical, mental, and emotional health. The clinic is a healing oasis in our vibrant, beautiful city – many patients comment how peaceful and calm the clinic feels right when they walk in the door.”
Adam’s mother Diane Jeanne (DeWald) Miramon followed in her son’s therapeutic footsteps. After twenty years working for the State of California at California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo, she moved to Florida in 2003. She attended the Bahkti Academy a year later and operated a mobile massage unit “Therapeutic Massage and Reiki Inc.” until her (second) retirement in 2020.

Adam met John Richard Lopez in 2013 and they were married December 15, 2023. John’s four siblings and two sons from a previous marriage have all welcomed Adam into the family. In their spare time Adam and John enjoy whitewater kayaking, hiking, camping, theater, scuba diving and traveling.
Adam tells me he and John are known for rehabilitating feral cats! They adopted three from an alley behind their home ten years ago. Those kitties are no longer with us, but John and Adam have two more furry additions to their home – Smokey and Jasmine.
I’ll leave you with Adam’s words about his own personal transformation: “Fifteen years ago I took a leap of faith and today I am swimming in an ocean of consciousness, spirituality, intention, and emotion.”
