The Charles W. Morgan was built in 1841. In 1863 the vessel was purchased by the J & WR Wing Co. of New Bedford MA, the largest whaling company in the U.S. and became their most successful and profitable whaling vessel, making 27 voyages. The Charles W. Morgan joined the Mystic Seaport Museum in 1941 and is presently on display at the last existing whaling vessel in the world and the most successful ever built making 37 total voyages over 75 years of whaling. In 1966 the vessel was listed as a National Historic Landmark.
